Specific Habitat |
Common in the north west mountains of North America in sunny wet terrain.
In the east , mainly a plant of the Boreal and Mixed Forest Regions. Can
be found in fens in areas of calcareous bedrock.

Flowering Season |
June to July, and as late as September.

Description |
Height 15-65 cm.
Leaves linear to lanceolate, dark green, up to 25 X 5 cm, gradually reduced
to bracts upwards.
Raceme 12 - 60 flowers.
Flowers white, vanilla or clove scented..

Comments |
Occurs only in open sedge fens and in a fewc adjacent treed fens. It never
grows in the more acidic environments of bogs. Often found with Sedges,
Pitcher Plant and Sundews, and with such orchids as Pogonia ophioglossoides,
Calopogon tuberosus, and Platanthera hyperborea.
